Hello! My name is Emily Graham, and I am a fourth year undergraduate student at the University of Georgia, majoring in Health Promotion with an emphasis in Health Services and a minor in Health Policy and Management. I am currently on the pre-nursing track and plan to pursue a Master of Science in Nursing with the goal of becoming a nurse practitioner and certified registered nurse anesthetists in the future.
I am originally from Lexington, Georgia, a rural community outside of Athens, which has shaped my interest in accessible, patient-centered healthcare. Through my coursework and experiences, I am currently focusing on building a strong foundation of public health, clinical care, and healthcare systems. By doing this, I hope to gain experience in exploring the specific areas of practice that interests me most.
I previously have worked at a long-term care facility, as a Certified Nursing Assistant, which involved me aiding patients in activities of daily living and evaluating their behaviors to help nurses and administrators to develop a care plan. I would also aide them in preparation for doctor’s appointments and family visits. This experience helped to jumpstart my interest in nursing, and I decided to broaden my experiences in a new setting.
I currently work as a Rehabilitation Nursing Technician at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Athens. In this role, I have the opportunity to provide direct patient care and collaborate with physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists. I also work closely with nurse educators, nutrition specialists, and healthcare managers to provide patient-centered care and an overall positive experience. This hands-on clinical experience has strengthened my love for nursing and the commitment to further my career in nursing.
